Grant was a great civil war general. He won many important battles, Fort Henry and Vicksburg. Grant directed another union general Sherman, from the south while he and his army of Potomac march to Richmond, Virgina. His goal wast pin down Confederate general Robert Lee an control Confederate states.
Jefferson Davis "We are not fighting for slavery, were fighting for independents" ~Jefferson Davis
Davis was a hero of war in the west. The states tried to determine laws for the new country an argued against it. He was elected good leader of the army. Davis ran away from army in poor way by arguing with the general. He was caught and tried for treason in 1866, but got let go in 1869.
Robert Lee "It is good that war is so horrible or we might grow fond of it" ~Robert Lee
Robert Lee was a well respected general. He had admired his men. He opposed ideas of secession for his home state of Virgina. Lee also had some great victories Seven Day Battle, Second battle of Bull Run. The turning point of the war was the terrible loss for Lee at Battle of Gettysburg, PA
